Mah Mah Ling, also listed as Ma Ma, is married to Bah Bah Ling. The name "Mah Mah" or Mā Mā, (妈妈) rather, is Mandarin Chinese for mom. Her and her husband have two daughters, Gwen, who is her natural daughter, and Francine, whom they adopted in early childhood. Her son-in-law, Stan Smith seemed annoyed that she did not seem to give his wife the same devotion that she gave her natural daughter Gwen, until her husband Bah Bah helped clear up the fact that it is Chinese custom to devote the most attention to the child most in need, and she is happy Stan show the same devotion to Francine as Bah Bah shows to her. She apparently can't say the word nine as shown in "Big Trouble in Little Langley".
Stan's diagram in "Kung Pao Turkey" shows the spelling of "Mah Mah". A large calendar in "Can I Be Frank (With You)" shows a birthday for "Ma Ma".
