  • In the beginning of the episode, Hayley is seen eating bacon for breakfast even though she's a vegetarian. In the middle of the episode, Hayley is also seen eating fried chicken. It is possible that Hayley has given up on vegetarianism or is eating meat substitutes.[1][2]
  • The episode marks the third appearance of The Turlington Detectives, in this case Daniel Turlington. Ron Turlington appeared in "Chimdale" while a Turlington without a given name worked for CIA Internal Affairs in "Meter Made". Daniel also reports that he works for Internal Affairs but his jurisdiction is limited to Langley Falls.
  • "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" by Michael Bolton plays during the montage of life without trans-fats.
  • When Stan makes the family guess who is in the crime beat section of the paper, Steve asks 'Hayden Panettiere?' She would later guest star in "Stan's Food Restaurant" as Ashley, a girlfriend of Steve's.
  • The men's restroom door at CIA headquarters pictures the Black Spy from Mad Magazine's Spy vs. Spy.
  • This is the first episode to be scored by Joel McNeely. McNeely replaced Ron Jones as second composer after Jones left to focus on composing for Family Guy.
  • Stan mentions Humboldt County when teasing Christie White about her drug bust. Humboldt County, California has been referred to as a "stoner's paradise" with nearly 30,000 people involved in growing marijuana.[3]
  • The wigs that Roger is brushing when Klaus approaches him about his dead aunt are the Nancy Reagan and a less elaborate version of the Maria Shriver wigs that Stan bought for Hayley after he shaved her head in "Stan Knows Best".
  • Stan notes that he persuaded Francine to see the Ace Ventura sequel instead of The Sweet Hereafter. Ace Ventura 2 was released in 1995, The Sweet Hereafter was released in 1997.
    • Stan says The Sweet Hereafter was based upon an accident in which his high school's debate team was killed. The film was actually based upon the novel of the same name which was inspired by the Alton, Texas bus crash.[4]
