- Stan attended the John DeLorean High School. The doors of the high school opened upwards, like the doors of the De Lorean DMC-12. Stan later professes admiration for John DeLorean in "Delorean Story-an".
- The maitre d' of the restaurant is modeled after the maitre d' in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
- Bill attempts to impress Francine by holding Peter Gabriel, along to a boombox above his head, alluding to the film Say Anything.
- Francine's high school friend "Quackie", voiced by Jon Cryer, is a reference to his character "Duckie" in the film Pretty in Pink.
- The pig head speaking to Stan in the hotel is similar to a scene in Lord of the Flies.
- The opening scene is a parody of Carrie.
