American Girl is a line of dolls that portray eight- to twelve-year-old girls of a variety of ethnicities, faiths, and social classes from different time periods throughout history. Originally the stories focused on various periods of American history, but was expanded to include characters and stories from contemporary life.
In "Russian Doll", Stan offers to pick up a one-of-a-kind American Girl doll ordered by the daughter of Russian mob boss Anastasia Kirilenko. Working with the company, the CIA plants a listening device inside the doll so they can learn the mob's secrets. As Stan apologizes for dragging Steve along with him to pick up the doll, Steve explains that each doll has an interesting backstory, such as Hawaiian doll Coco, who kept her family together during the attack on Pearl Harbor, and Helena, who's family died of dysentery during the Civil War, although Stan just rips her head off and insists that boys don't play with dolls. Store clerk Bob even tries to show off his 'friend' Maisey, but Stan dismisses it.
As Stan bemoans the loss of his Piper, he is inspired by a hallucination to gather a team of other dolls to liberate her: Jojo, a farmhouse femme fatale; Clover, an engineer; Mai, martial arts expert; The Bordeaux Sisters, Cajuns who are all-around survival experts; Emma, an African American baseball player; and Daisy, a hockey player with razor-sharp skates.
They succeed in gaining access to the mansion, killing all they guards the encounter. When he locates Piper with Soya, he observes from his hiding place in the closet that Anastasia treats her exactly as his own mother treated him when he started playing with dolls as a replacement for his missing father. He recovers Piper for Soya and advises her that her mother won't be a problem in the future. With his help, Clover and one of the Bordeaux sisters blows up Anastasia with a car bomb.
