Ali is a 10th grade girl on the class trip to Philadelphia that Steve is forced to sit with in "Smooshed: A Love Story".
When Steve's plans of hooking up with a blonde haired girl not only fail initially, but later it turns out that she's Reese Witherspoon trying to pass herself off as a high school student for a film role, Steve is forced to pair up with Ali. She dismisses his idea of love, but when their chaperone comes up missing, they are forced to pair up to search for him. She points out that his biggest problem is being dramatic when he continues his complaints about love and sits on gum on the subway.
When they take a break from searching, they stop at a restaurant known for a spicy food. Steve notes at the food isn't the only thing spicy, acknowledging a couple kissing. Ali is upset and eventually informs Steve that he was her ex-boyfriend, although she continues to deny the existence of love. When she refuses to leave and appear to be defeated, Steve eats a Carolina Reaper pepper, which gives them a handy excuse to leave so he can go to the hospital. Thankful to Steve, they share a kiss.
Later that night, Ali comes to Steve's room and tells him that the kiss didn't mean anything to her and that they should pretend it didn't happen. Further distracted by Principal Lewis' demands that they find Marty or get expelled and killed, Steve runs out alone and ends up getting hit by a bus driven by Marty, and is pinned up against the stolen police car containing Snot and his new girlfriend, Anne-Marie. Steve refuses medical aid until he forces Ali to admit that the kiss did mean something.
